Studying in Orlando: What to expect

Orlando’s home state, Florida, is a go-to place for those who want the best education for themselves and their loved ones. It ranks 30th in education quality nationwide. It is 11th in the K-12 achievement category.

Orlando, for its part, has one of Florida’s biggest public school systems. Opportunities for private education are many.There are more than 35 universities, colleges, private institutions, technical schools, and continuing education programs for workers.

The city’s universities and colleges, in particular, are best known for technology research and training.

High schools

Washington Postnamed17 of the high schools in Orange County “Top of the Class.”Each of the three high schools –Lyman High School, Seminole High School,and Crooms Academy of Information Technology – was featured as a “Best High School” in U.S. News & World Report.

Lake County Schools are known for their innovative approach to personalized learning methods, while Osceola County School for the Arts in Kissimmee was named one of the country’s leading public high schools by Newsweek and Washington Post.

Universities and colleges

University of Central Florida (UCF) has a student population of over 60,000,making it the second largest university in the US. A top research university, UCF is focused on the needs of the local business community.

Students have access to several research and training facilities, including Central Florida Research Park – one of the world’s leading research parks.

The U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges 2016 ranked it as one of the nation’s most innovative universities. Kiplinger’s and The Princeton Review also cited it as one of the America’s nation’s best values for a college education.

UCF’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science has a nationally and internationally ranked Champion Programming Team.

Rollins College has over 3,500 students. It is considered the state’s top regional university and counts among the 50 “best value” private learning institutions in the US.

The college’s Roy E. Crummer Graduate School of Business is known for its graduate management education and lifelong learning programs.

Full Sail University offers degree programs in Cloud Technologies, Computer Animation, Creative Writing for Entertainment, Digital Arts & Design, Film, Game Art, Media Communications, and others.

State colleges

The Florida College System, which consists of Lake-Sumter State College, Seminole State College of Florida, and Valencia College, caters to over 66,000 students.

Lake-Sumter State College has campuses in Leesburg, Clermont, and Sumterville. It is one the best institutions in the state of Florida offering two-year courses.

Seminole State College of Florida has four campuses across Seminole County. It has a student population of more than 18, 000 and is known to be among the Top 10 most affordable colleges for obtaining an online degree.

Valencia College has six campuses. Aspen Institute ranked it the top community college in the country in 2011 to 2012.
