Top Vacation Spots

While it is no secret that most tourists regularly flock to Orlando to visit the incredibly popular theme parks (Disney and Universal), you should know that there is so much more to do in Orlando than just theme parks. As some of the top vacation destinations in the entire world, our theme parks aren’t to be missed — but there is something to be said for thinking outside the box ever so slightly when it comes to planning your vacation. Here, let’s take a look at some of our favorite top vacation spots in Orlando.

Enjoying Your Vacation in Orlando

Enjoying your vacation in Orlando truly isn’t hard to do. In fact, we regularly hear from families that their getaways to Orlando provide memories of a lifetime for everyone in the family. If you’re feeling up for something a little different, that is still guaranteed to please everyone in your family, read on for our top vacation spots in Orlando:

Wekiwa Springs State Park

This natural gem is not to be missed! Millions of gallons of blue, crystal clear water surround you in this state park. Be sure to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on the lush grass grounds. For those feeling especially adventurous, snorkeling is available, allowing you to marvel at the species of fish and reef living just below the surface. Once you’ve dried off and recharged with lunch, hit the 13-mile hiking trail to finish off your sightseeing.

Downtown Orlando

Believe it or not, most visitors to the greater Orlando area never actually make their way into Orlando! Just a short 15 minute drive from Sea World or Universal Studios, and less than a half hour outside of the Disney parks lies downtown Orlando, with a surprisingly normal suburban vibe. Check out the local markets, or stop for a quick breakfast or lunch at one of the great restaurants in town. Don’t miss the Eola Sunday Market, where you’ll find the best cup of coffee around, as well as local artisan goods and handmade items.

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

Merritt Island is one of the best bird watching destinations in the United States — and it’s right in our backyard! Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, near Cape Canaveral, was originally designed as a natural buffer for NASA activities at the Cape. Fast forward to today, and it’s the animals that are having their way in this wildlife refuge. Merritt Island gives you the perfect glimpse of what central Florida would look like without all of the attractions and destinations that have been built.

Winter Park, FL

Known for some of the most luxurious real estate and addresses in central Florida, Winter Park is a great destination when you have a little downtime and are feeling up for some spectacular sightseeing. Shop at some of the upscale boutiques on Park Avenue, or marvel at some of the most beautiful homes you’ll likely ever see. If you have the time, join Winter Park Scenic Boat Tours for a relaxing guided tour along the water.
