What to Look For in a Luxury Home

5 Things to Look for When Buying a Luxury Home

When buying a luxury home, there are many features to have on your list of must-haves. Your husband may want a three-car garage, while you might just be praying for a huge walk-in closet where you can safely store your whole wardrobe and shoe collection. Here is a helpful list of other things to look for when searching for the perfect luxury home that will make your search that much more efficient.

Windows

You may say, “Why the heck are windows on the list…every house has windows.” However, you’d be surprised how many buyers in the midst of their excitement forget to notice how many windows the home has that they want to purchase. Windows are important because depending on how many there are, it can impact heating and cooling costs of the home and this can be a financial strain later down the line.

Storage

Storage is one of those amenities that you think you will always have enough of when purchasing a home. But, I’m here to tell you that most homeowners don’t always adequately measure how much their family will grow and how much more room they might need for storage purposes. Keep in mind when scouting out a home that unused ski equipment and Christmas supplies need to go somewhere in your home.

Natural Light and Clear Views

This may not seem as important if you a buying a luxury home. However, it is integrally important if you’re planning on purchasing a luxury condominium or apartment. Having unobstructed views readily accessible will not only help your resale value, but it will also help to improve your mood once you move in. I mean, think about looking out your window just to see the brick of the apartment building right next door. Natural light is also very important for keeping you happy and at your best. Sweet views and beautiful light will be very beneficial to you as a buyer.

Ceiling Height

Maybe you’ve only thought of the ceiling height before in your current home to think about how tall a Christmas tree you can get so that it will fit comfortably in the living room. However, this is an important aspect of the home to consider. If you’re living in a luxury apartment, you want to look for at least 8.5 foot ceilings all the way up to 14 foot ceilings so that you don’t feel boxed in inside your own home. Usually, over 14 feet is impractical, so be sure to keep this in mind when searching for your dream home.

Practical Home Layout

Whether or not you like to entertain friends and family on the regular or not does not matter. Picking a home with a practical and functional layout is key. You want to make sure that there is clear differentiation of where the living room stops and where you private bedroom begins so that guests do not run amuck without your permission. This will also make it easier for you to decorate your home if rooms are clearly defined.
